My research interests lie in the area of social media monitoring.
The recent prevalence of social media (blogs, micro-blogs, social networks, online forums, etc) has given rise to a rich, massive, dynamic information stream.
Since online behavior reflects human social activity, its analysis is of direct interest to a wide spectrum of social sciences.
However, many of the challenges related to such analysis are cast as problems within the scope of computer science. In particular, the diverse and complex character
of activities represented in the stream call for sufficiently adequate models that capture their most important aspects. Moreover, because of the massive character
of the stream, efficient processing techniques are required, especially in cases where analysis needs to be performed in real time.
My research aims at addressing instances of such problems.
